Digital Photography 1-2 is a project-oriented course that is aligned with the California Content Standards for the Visual Arts (Grades 9-12) and the “California Standards”, all of which leads to arts literacy and the development of skills students need to succeed in 21st century careers and college.

This year long course in digital photography introduces students to the Elements of Art and Principles of Design needed for creating photographs: including basic layout and design, color theory, shape, form, and composition. This course will familiarize the student with digital photographic equipment, software, materials, and methods through hands-on practice. Students will be exposed to the history of photography and photographers by studying and emulating a variety of photographic styles. This one-year course meets the UC and CSU Visual and Performing Arts Requirement. It is the students’ responsibility to utilize class time wisely, to keep all grading sheets in a folder, to check grades posted online, and to discuss concerns with the teacher as soon as they arise. Late work will be accepted for partial credit one week past the posted due date. In order to receive full credit for the final project, attendance during the final examination period is mandatory.

Course Overview:

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the school year, students are expected to demonstrate mastery of the following essential California Content Standards for the Visual Arts (9-12) and California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects (9-10):

Major Infractions automatically go the assistant principals and/or dean

BEHAVIOR in high school can be a challenging experience that may call for new degrees of patience, imagination and cooperative working. Ceramics students are expected to follow the Aragon High School Behaviors For Learning policies and to create projects as instructed by the teacher. Any student who cannot follow the rules will receive a referral to the dean that may lead to suspension or the student withdrawn from the course. Students are expected to utilize their class time wisely and work on photography projects (not homework or reading for another class). Students not working on photography projects will be expected to help the teacher with housekeeping chores (e.g., organizing/cleaning materials, camera maintenance, recycling materials).

Excused Absence Policies: As per AHS policies, students who have cut or have an unexcused absence are not allowed to make up work. Those with excused absences have one day for every day excused to turn in missed assignments. After an excused absence, it is your responsibility to turn in missed work or you will receive a zero.

TARDY POLICY: Ceramic students are expected to be in class and ready to work when the bell rings. Students who are late to class and unexcused will loose participation points. Teacher will record all tardies and absences in Aries. Students are expected to abide by the Aragon High School BFL-Learning Targets:

1. Respectful Language

2. Academic Integrity

3. Respect School and Others’ property

4. No Electronic Devices

Academic Dishonesty: Cheating is unfair to those students who seek honest appraisal of their ability

and effort, such as: giving your work to another to be copied, copying homework assignments from

another student, or claiming credit for artistic work done by someone else such as drawing, sculpture,

or design. It is unethical to copy an image that was made by someone else. If students produce

work that makes use of another’s work, including published photographs, the student must make

significant changes to the artwork so it moves beyond duplication. Other examples of Academic

Dishonesty includes: Planning with one or more fellow students to commit any form of academic

dishonesty together or lying to a teacher to increase your grade. Ignorance of a rule does not

constitute a basic for waiving the rule or the consequences of breaking that rule.

Grading: Grades will be posted on School Loop once a week.
