Project #1 6 Word Memoir:
Writing a memoir and interpreting through a photograph
Project #1
6 Word Memoir: Writing a memoir and interpreting through a photograph.
I. Work in partners/group and develop your 6 word Memoir –
(1 memoir for each member). 6 Words Due by: Friday, 8/19/16
II. What is a
memoir? It is related to the word “memory”. Our memories make up our
life story.
III. Assignment
Description: I am
challenging you to write your life story in six words. Yes, just six! No more,
no less. Each memoir must contain six words. Since you only have six words, I
encourage you to use mainly nouns and verbs. It does not have to be a complete
sentence, but it can not be six unrelated words. You are not making a list of
words that describe you, you are writing six words centered around one main
idea. Use powerful words--you get only six.
* It is not just coming up with a clever sentence or personal motto (i.e. “I love going to the mall!” or “Live life to the fullest everyday!”) It must be six words that hint at a much larger, more intricate story.
A. Start by brainstorming. Make lists of facts about you. For example: Where do you live? How many siblings do you have? What are your favorite things to do, favorite foods, favorite places, etc.? What important events have happened in your life? What is important to you? What are some personality traits that describe you?
B. Next, choose six words from your list to summarize some aspect of who you are or what you are like. I encourage you to use mainly nouns and verbs (strong words). Feel free to use any of the examples below as mentor texts!
Examples from kids and teens:
-Desperate to explore, yet stuck here.
-Laughed at all the wrong moments.
-I draw my dreams in crayon.
-He left. Mom cried. Roller-coaster ride
-Always took every opportunity I got
-I will be a paramedic someday.
-I fulfilled my awkwardness quota today.
-I made captain. Then enemies
