1. What is a Photogram? A photogram is a photographic print made by placing objects directly onto light sensitive paper exposing it to light from above. NO CAMERA USED.
What is a Cyanotype?
2. Cyantypes are also known as blue prints.
3. Anna Atkins, an early cyanotype artist, also called her work shadowgraphs.
4. When exposed to sunlight a chemical reaction occurs.

I. WARM UP: Positive and Negative Space: 2 photograms (small group activity)
Complete two photograms with your small group
- 1 photogram with more positive space than negative.
- 1 photogram with more negative space than positive.
- Positive = The occupied space. The actual object.
- Negative = The space surrounding the objects. The unoccupied space.

I. Project Overview: Cyanotypes: Opposites - Positive and
Negative Space
- The pictures should depict both of the ‘Opposites’ - hot and cold, old and new, tall and short, big and small, weak and strong, happy and sad etc.
- It is a broad theme that should allow lots of room for creativity – it could be people, objects, buildings, nature, even abstracts.
- 2 final Cyanotypes embodying Opposites theme:
- 1 with strong/dominant positive space
II. DUE: Wednesday, Nov. 2nd (Period 1) & Thursday, Nov. 3rd (Period 2)
- 6 photographs exploring Opposites theme
-3 with strong/dominant negative space
-3 with strong/dominant positive space
III. Block days above & Friday, Nov. 4th
1. Cyanotype printing
2. Matting 1 cyanotype
IV. DUE: Monday, Nov. 7th - Completed Cyanotype prints
- Cyanotype #1: Opposites and strong/dominant negative space
- Cyanotype #2: Opposites and strong/dominant positive space
- Mat 1 Cyanotype using mat board and mat cutter.
- Scan both cyanotypes and add to your web portfolios projects page.
